Yesterday, October 3, 2013 was my first day of Field Work. I attended one of the lower elementary schools. Mrs. Seal was the name of the teacher I was assigned to. This just so happen to be her third year teaching, of those 3 years she has only taught third grade. When I arrived at the lower Elementary School, I met her, she informed me that this is her panning period so we sat in the teacher lounge. We discussed things she thinks I should know before becoming a third grade teacher. She informed me her class consisted of 26 students, and also that third grade is a hard year for students. It’s the first year of Standardized testing and they have so many objectives to meet for the school year. There is a lot of pressure for such a young group of students. She said you just have to keep them interested, and reward them for the things they learn (such as multiplication tables). Also the transition from 2nd grade to third grade is difficult, and she often has behavioral problems. But all problems aside she said it is very rewarding and she loves her job. I can not wait until next Thursday when I can work with the children.
